RETN launches Last Mile over IP

RETN introduces Last Mile over IP (LMoIP): an in-house solution, aiming to offer a simple and efficient option for customers that want to improve their network operations and infrastructure, without compromising scalability for future. LMoIP is introduced at Capacity Europe, the leading European telecoms conference.

With RETN LMoIP customers have the option to leverage their existing Internet Access to interconnect with RETN Network Platform. Made possible by the installation of the RETN uCPE, this small hardware device is user installable and instantly provides access to the RETN network platform from the customer premises simply and securely. Customers can increase resiliency with backup options such as LTE/4G solutions, to provide assured business continuity.

LMoIP main features:

  • Zero Touch Configuration: service installation is simplified with no need of engineers on site. RETN will deliver the uCPE with simple instructions and, once connected to the transport(s) method, the device will download safely the service configuration;
  • Fast switchover on an Active/Backup topology: with this configuration, the failover is assured within seconds to allow business continuity;
  • IPv6 Support: full support on dual stack for IPv4 and IPv6;
  • Security: IP-Sec encryption ensures the safety of your data end-to-end;
  • Firewall Functions: stateful firewall functions are available on the uCPE.

Customers coming from a traditional, physical interconnection based solely on MPLS, will have experienced many limitations, like long delivery time, poor or non-existent flexibility for upgrades, lack of redundancy options amongst others. Most of these limitations happen due to local access circuits having multiple suppliers involved on a single: even if the customer is purchasing from, what seems to be a single provider, often there are two or more carriers involved.

LMoIP avoids these limitations. Resiliency and business continuity are assured when combined with additional services, such as LTE/4G or a traditional physical access service. LMoIP services can be installed in a matter of 1-2 working days with large cost savings over traditional physical access services, all the while providing full-service control and visibility. Last but not least LMoIP offers an easy way to connect to the extensive reach and connectivity of the RETN Network.

“The RETN team has invested heavily in this solution, we’ve been improving features, updated solutions according to the changing market needs and now are happy to launch it and after a year of field testing with some very happy customers, we are delighted to launch the product for general availability this week. This product provides a game changing way for new and existing enterprise customers to gain access to the superior RETN network service and support we are renowned for.” – commented Tony O’Sullivan, the CEO. “RETN’s extensive network coverage all over Europe and Asia and it’s control of underlying DWDM and IP/MPLS infrastructure allows RETN to achieve one of the fastest customer service delivery schedules in the market whilst ensuring the backbone network is constantly upgraded to accommodate increasing customer demand. Connected to the most important Internet Exchanges and Cloud Providers, RETN offers one of the most comprehensive connectivity solutions and constantly expands its product development to keep the pace of technology evolution and market drive. Now clients can enjoy benefits of our network by connecting to it with LMoIP”.

RETN Ukraine wins Telecom Awards 2021

RETN Ukraine wins Ukrainian Telecom Awards 2021 – “Solution of the year in the field of backbone networks and transport services”. This follows quickly on from RETN Group’s shortlisting for the 2021 Global Carrier Awards in the “Best Central and Eastern European Wholesale Carrier” nomination. The company’s continued expansion with new routes and PoP developments, combined with its industry leading customer service continue to impress the judges.

In August RETN launched a new DWDM route between Chisinau and Odessa initially lit with 500G, which dramatically improves the connectivity between Ukrainian and the rest of the Balkans. This is the shortest route (261 km) between these two cities, the round-trip time on the route is 2.90 ms.

In total 8 border crossings have been built by RETN to ensure the resiliency and diversity on routes between Ukraine and the rest of the world. RETN now counts a total of 19 PoPs in Ukraine out of its global 800 total.

Using a combination of Infinera’s FlexILS line system and a mix of ICE-4 transponders with Ciena’s Waveserver® 5 solution based on WaveLogic 5 Extreme on the network in Ukraine and Eurasia RETN is able to provide 100GbE and 400GbE connectivity to meet the exponential growth in bandwidth requirements for critical services and applications. The combination of Infinera and Ciena’s DWDM solutions, implemented and maintained by RETN’s in house DWDM team, supports the highest standards of network and service quality, with improved network efficiency (up to 800 Gbps per lambda) and lower latency.

Elena Lutsenko, Managing Director of RETN Ukraine: “It’s an honour to be recognised by the colleagues and the industry. The only thing more important for us is that we hear positive feedback from our clients on a regular basis. RETN will continue to invest in the Ukrainian network, and we appreciate the trust placed in us by our clients”.

RETN PROVIDES INTERNET SERVICES FOR IT-REGION

IT-Region has extensive experience in the field of network solutions and specialises in the implementation of complex projects for the construction of effective business management systems. RETN has been working with IT-Region since 2014, helping its clients with high-quality connections and timely solutions.

Andrey Spitsyn, Director at IT-Region: «Back in 2013, a representative of RETN from Moscow called us and offered cooperation. It took quite some time to find common ground, but in 2014 we established a productive partnership. RETN was the first company that was ready to provide communication services for the whole group of our companies – that’s why we chose RETN.
We are constantly growing and developing with the help of our very reliable and high-quality uplinks, one of which is RETN, which transports circa 30% of our traffic volume. We enjoy working with the company and among other things, I would like to highlight the RETN team because it is always pleasant and comfortable to work with.
Out of our long history of cooperation, we remember one special case, that happened on New Year’s Eve a few years ago. There were some problems with the equipment around 23:00, and because of this, 4 cities had been left without the Internet. At that time, RETN was our only supplier, and since it happened on New Year’s Eve, we were afraid that the situation would not be solved soon, which would be a big blow to our reputation. But then RETN showed us its customer service. We still remember with great gratitude this case. The company’s employee on duty found the backup equipment in 30-40 minutes, prepared it, got permission to the access node, drove there, replaced the equipment, and thereby restored the service around 23:50, just before the chimes struck. It was such a New Year’s magic from RETN»
