RETN Expands Remote IX Connectivity with ESpanix

London, Madrid – December 10RETN, the leading independent global network services provider, is pleased to announce the addition of ESpanix to its Remote IX portfolio, providing RETN international customers access to ESpanix public internet exchange.

RETN has deployed advanced dark fiber infrastructure at the ESpanix Mesena Datacentre, alongside significant upgrades to its equipment, to enhance network performance and capacity. This provides RETN customers with access to Madrid’s metro network, interconnecting five critical datacentres that help form the backbone of Spain’s connectivity.

Iberia’s prominence as an interconnection hub continues to grow, with submarine cables linking the Americas (North and South), Africa, the Mediterranean and Egypt, the gateway to the Middle East. Its unique position as a bridge between Europe and LATAM, is further strengthened by an independent electricity grid increasingly powered by renewable sources like solar and wind. These energy advancements are expected to lower costs in the coming decade, creating an attractive environment for tech industries and data-centric investments.

William Manzione, Product Manager at RETN, said: "RETN’s Remote IX service allows operators to connect to global Internet Exchange Points like ESpanix without the need for physical presence. This partnership underscores the value of Madrid as a critical connectivity hub, providing international networks a full range of services in one of the most historic and evolving internet exchanges.”

Amedeo Beck Peccoz, Sales Director of ESpanix, added: "We leverage RETN’s global presence to further push our ongoing expansion plan and allow a more efficient use of the network. Remote operators can now seamlessly join ESpanix Node, one of the busiest IXPs in Southern Europe, and exchange direct traffic with our members adding value to our community. The recent upgrade in capacity carried out by RETN in ESpanix Datacentre is a strategic move that confirms the central role of Spanish networks in the upcoming years.”

These investments also benefit Spanish operators with direct access to RETN’s extensive 135.000 km international network across Europe and Asia, linking Madrid to RETN’s interconnection hubs in Paris and Marseille.
